ABOUT LEAH...

Leah is an San Francisco Bay Area-based recording artist/songwriter who has performed across the US, Europe and Asia. She records and performs her own original music and has released two independent albums: Real Good Fire & Love Again. Her song ‘You Don’t Scare Me’ from her debut album won Best R&B/Blues song from The Billboard World Song Contest. She has gained a reputation as a moving performer and respected band-leader with music ranging from horn-infused funk to tug-at-your-heartstrings acoustic ballads. Leah’s goal as an artist is to lay it all on the stage. All her emotion, all her voice, all her inhibitions. She seeks to be completely vulnerable in her songs in hopes that you won’t be able to help but to feel something. Her song ‘What Am I Supposed to Do’ from her debut album, Real Good Fire, is a great example of pure vulnerability, addressing the feeling of love-lost and not knowing at all what to do with yourself. She wants you to feel your own emotions through the music and sense that we’re all in this together. We’re all going through stuff and we can all relate to each other on a fundamental human level. In addition to doing her own music, Leah has shared the stage and recorded with some amazing artists: Sheila E., Narada Michael Walden, Pete Escovedo, Stevie Wonder, India.Arie, Carlos Santana, Cindy Blackman, Lydia Pense & Coldblood, Ray Obiedo, Yolanda Adams, Evelyn Champagne King, Ronnie Spector, Confunkshun, Howard Hewett, Michael Franti, Ronnie Spector, MC Hammer, Darryl DMC McDaniels, Ashford & Simpson, Tom Johnston (Doobie Brothers), Taj Mahal, Katherine McPhee, Lucinda Williams, Patti Austin and Aimee Mann. Leah was also a long-time featured soloist with The Glide Memorial Church Choir in San Francisco with whom she performed everywhere from the World Expo in Shanghai to “The Pursuit of Happyness” motion picture with Will Smith.

Growing up an only-child-latch-key-kid, at a young age Leah took it upon herself to find ways to keep busy. Her most prized possession was an office-style tape recorder deck, with which she spent at least a bazillion hours writing songs and producing them to her young satisfaction. As a child she was heavily influenced Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Cindy Lauper and (her dad’s) Beatles and Earth Wind & Fire records. Her entire childhood was spent living in the spectacular international diversity of the grad-student family housing at The University of Wisconsin, Madison, where her mom worked her tail off to get her degrees. This eventually led Leah to study all the languages she could get her hands on in college. Upon graduating with no real professional skills, Leah moved to France to pick grapes. This plan was thwarted by an offer to sing American Top 40 in a Parisian club every night, as a job! While it was fun to sing for her supper, and eat delicious pastries every morning, she decided to return to The States in search of more. On a whim, she packed her bags for San Francisco and fell instantly, completely, emphatically, head-over-heels in love with The Bay Area where she’s been ever since. Within what seemed like minutes, she was sucked into the SF music scene and has been a full-time musician since 2006.
